Ride or Die
It was those late nights that made me cherish our friendship.
Those nights when we had no worries about how we looked.
No judgements expressed about our questionable choices.
No fear of the future or what tomorrow might have brought us.
Because we lived for those moments.
And we cared only for the past - which were the mere seconds quickly ticking behind us.
And for the future - which were the very seconds treading before us.
Because everything we said and did in those moments were relevant.
And we constantly reminded each other of the comfort we felt in the way we chose to spend our time.
We reminded each other that life was too precious to waste.
And that was the only thing that mattered to us.
Those moments.
No worries about keeping our voices low or our hearts locked up with fear.
We didn’t filter what we said or how we acted.
We spoke what we felt as the feelings entered our hearts.
And we understood the feeling of being understood.
And we reciprocated it.
Because that was what real friends did.
We shared.
We listened.
And sometimes we responded with complete silence.
Because sometimes that was all we really needed.
To be heard.
To be understood.
And to be comforted with the presence of someone who cared enough to share that moment with us.
Even if that moment begged for isolation.
We refused to walk away.
It was the definition of a friendship we called “Ride or Die.”
And no matter what, we always chose to ride.
